JVP’s media Quarter was packed and buzzing for almost three days. 150 entrepreneurs worked in teams to come up with a total of 13 new start ups in less than 54 hours. This was part of Startup Weekend, a start up marathon event, which is held in cities all over the world and this year in JVP Media Quarter in Jerusalem, for the first time.

The Event, which is organized in Israel by leading tech blog, Newsgeek, started Wednesday with presentations of 60 start-up ideas, in cooperation with JVP. The best 13 were then chosen and the crowd divided into groups, (which included programmers, marketing people, designers and more). From then on, the entrepreneurs works almost non-stop on the projects. Friday afternoon, the teams presented their companies to the judges.

The Winning start up was SueThem, an application which offers every person the ability to file a law suit through their Smartphone and to connect to a specialized lawyer. To the second place came the start up Pick4me, which turns buyers of goods in stores into affiliates. The third place was awarded to Very Fare, an app which calculates, before getting in a taxi, if it is better to use the meter or ask for a fixed price.

Participants in the Startup Weekend came from all walks of life and all sectors of Israeli society: Secular and religious; Jerusalemites and Tel Avivians; Jews and Arabs; Olim and Sabras. Even a few programmers from Ramallah came to the event, as a preparation to Start Up weekend Ramallah, which will be held in two months.

It was one of the most successful startup weekend event held in Israel. We hope to further the cooperation in the future.
