PowerDsine Announces Next-Generation Power over Ethernet Midspan Series; New PoE Midspan Family Offers Unique Highly Secured Power Management

MELVILLE, NY & HOD HASHARON, Israel, December 14, 2005 -

PowerDsine (NASDAQ:PDSN), a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, announced today at Interop New York, the launch of its next generation 6500 PoE Midspan series. The new IEEE 802.3af-compliant 6500 PoE Midspan series is reportedly the first PoE midspan to offer advanced secured Network Management System and the only PoE Midspan to ship with a lifetime warranty.

The PowerDsine 6500 PoE Midspans will be available in 6-, 12-, 24- and 48-port versions. The 6500 Midspans are designed for enterprises which are deploying IP phones, wireless LAN access points or IP surveillance cameras. Midspans allow networks the added functionality of PoE without the need to replace existing Ethernet switches. This optimizes PoE port count, improves the ROI of networks and saves costs associated with these deployments.

The new 6500 Midspan family offers PowerDsine's new Network Management System (NMS) named PowerView Pro. PowerDsine's PowerView Pro features SNMPv3 remote management with encrypted data transmission to secure power management actions. The 6500 PoE Midspan also offers Web-based management from any PC in the network, supporting advance authentication and encryption algorithms - MD5 & DES. The security feature is important in order to avoid external interference with the power management.

The 6500 Midspan family is a green product line, compliant with WEEE regulations for the elimination of lead and other banned substances, offering an environmentally safe PoE Midspan solution.

The 24-port 6500 Midspan (PowerDsine 6524) will ship with two alternative power supplies: Full-Power (400W) and Managed-Power (200W). The Full-Power option is ideal for powering terminals with high power consumption, such as touch-screen VoIP phones and multi-channel wireless LAN access points. The Managed-Power option uses an advanced internal power management algorithm and reduces heat dissipation in the communication closet.

"The 6500 PoE Midspan Family provides enterprises a new level of security with this advanced remote management solution," said Igal Rotem, PowerDsine's CEO. "Moreover, we have such confidence in the 6500 Midspans' reliability that we are offering customers a lifetime warranty."

PowerDsine will be offering live demonstrations of its PoE Midspans at Booth #549 at the Interop New York show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City from December 13-15.

Availability

The 6-, 12- and 24-port members of the PowerDsine 6500 PoE Midspan family will be generally available in February 2006. The 48-port model is available now.

About Power over Ethernet Technology

PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device, to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.
