Mahi Networks and LastMile AG Enter Into Global Alliance to Deliver CWDM Optical Transport Solutions
Mahi Networks Expands Product Portfolio to Address CWDM Transport Market

PETALUMA, CA & DIETZENBACH, GERMANY (PR Newswire), March 7, 2005 - Mahi Networks, a supplier of market leading optical transport, switching, and aggregation platforms designed to transition service providers to an IP services network, and LastMile AG, a leading German supplier of Optical Networking Solutions, announced today that they have formed a Strategic Performance Alliance to co-develop, market, and sell end-to-end optical transport solutions for the enterprise and access markets. The two companies will present this solution at OFC/NFOEC (booth No. 1116) in Anaheim, California and at CeBIT (Hall 12, booth C83/1) in Hannover, Germany.

"We're excited to be working with LastMile to promote and deploy enhanced IP services over next generation optical networks," said Mahi Networks Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Ron Longo. "Mahi's Vx7(TM) and Mi7(TM), together with LastMile's FiberPilot(TM), create an automated, reconfigurable, and scalable end-to-end solution that provides carriers and enterprise customers with improved performance and lower lifecycle costs."

Under the alliance, Mahi will become a strategic, global supplier of LastMile products to wireline carriers and enterprise customers. LastMile products will play a pivotal role in Mahi's product strategy, supporting an end-to-end portfolio that includes leading edge products for IP and video service delivery, core optical switching systems, and core optical transport systems. LastMile's products extend Mahi's product reach to access networks and campus environments that frequently connect to Vx7 DWDM regional networks.

"Mahi Networks has a reputation for delivering comprehensive, end-to-end solutions to its carrier customers, and we're honored to be working with such a respected leader in the optical transport and switching equipment market," said Eric Hoedt, CEO of LastMile. "The LastMile products are a natural extension to the Mahi IP service portfolio, and we look forward to delivering innovative WDM solutions meeting the highest standards of flexibility, scalability, reliability, and manageability to Mahi's customers."

The LastMile portfolio of DWDM, CWDM and TDM products will become Mahi's family of Lx7 Multi-Service Optical Transport System products. Mahi will initially offer the Lx5 FiberPilot and Lx3 LightPilot systems. The Lx5 FiberPilot Wave Division Multiplexing platform supports CWDM and DWDM within a single compact shelf configuration, providing a cost effective optical transport solution for each new application while incorporating a graceful capacity expansion path for higher density deployments in the future. The Lx3 LightPilot complements the Lx5 FiberPilot with an integrated and extremely compact form factor. Multiplexing any optical application from 100Mbps to 2.5Gbps onto a single fiber pair, the Lx3 contains a complete eight-channel optical multiplexer system in just 1 rack unit (RU).

The Lx7 Multi-Service Optical Transport System joins Mahi's portfolio of service provider and enterprise transport systems. Mahi's Vx7 Multi-Service Core Transport System is a 32-wavelength DWDM system that enables dynamic, reconfigurable optical add/drop module (ROADM) functionality with SONET simplicity.

The Mahi Mi7 Multi-service Core Aggregation System supports any combination of TDM and packet traffic while aggregating hundreds of SONET/SDH rings into a single aggregation system. It integrates the functionality of a Digital Cross-Connect System, SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexer, and Ethernet/L2 switch into a unified 320Gbs platform to create the ideal building block to transition today's TDM infrastructure to an IP services network architecture.
