Quarry Introduces First Web-Based Customer Self-Management Tool for Visibility and Control of Network-based Security Services
Gives enterprise customers control of service provider-based security services

Burlington, MA, May 24, 2004 - Quarry Technologies, the performance leading supplier of carrier-class security service routers, today introduced the company's new iQCSM application, a web-based customer self-management system that allows service providers to give their enterprise customers unprecedented visibility and control over network-based VPN security services. With Quarry's iQCSM, the service providers' enterprise customers are able to view and modify existing security policies, as well as add new security services and users, all in real time, through a customized web portal.

According to Quarry President and CEO Ian Mashiter, Quarry's iQCSM improves the marketability of provider-based security services by addressing two critical customer concerns: control and visibility. "Our Customer Self-Management System removes a major obstacle for enterprises looking to outsource their security requirements to service providers," said Mashiter. "It gives enterprise network managers the visibility and control they need to be fully confident their networks are secure. Already, our service provider customers using this product are seeing increased acceptance of network-based security services by their business customers and experiencing operational savings due to a decrease in support activity."

StraitShot Communications, a Bellevue-Washington-based service provider using Quarry's iQ Security Services platform, is one of the first deployments for the iQCMS system. StraitShot VP of Technology Marc Coluccio said the company sees tremendous value in greater customer control over the security services to which his customers subscribe. "Business customers are much more comfortable having a choice of either relying on the provider or managing their own network security," commented Coluccio. "We deployed Quarry's iQ platform last year and customers are very enthusiastic about our capabilities because of it. Now, with Quarry's customer management, we can offer network managers the ability to monitor all their security service activity, make changes that immediately throttle up or stop the spread of infections or breaches of any kind, and even self-provision to add services. It's a win-win for us and our customers."

The Quarry iQCSM system is integrated with the Quarry iQSMS service management system which runs on the Quarry iQ-series Security Service Routers. It allows enterprise managers to modify security policies across all of their sites from a single location. The customer accesses the iQCSM with a standard Web browser, and an XML tool kit is provided to the service provider so it can customize or brand the interface for its customers.

The Quarry iQCSM customer self-management system allows enterprise customers using service provider-based security services to:

  • Monitor usage in real time
  • Modify security policies
  • Verify Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Provision new users
  • Provision new services (i.e. firewalls) automatically
  • Auto-provision bandwidth on demand

Service providers also gain increased visibility through more detailed monitoring and reporting. In conjunction with the completely virtualized security services on Quarry's iQ-series Security Service Routers, the enhanced iQSMS with customer self-management provides a unique capability to deliver a virtualized view of security services across thousands of individual customers.
